TV actress Deepika Singh, popular for playing IPS officer Sandhya Rathi in soap opera 'Diya Aur Baati Hum', has been blessed with a baby boy.

Deepika Singh, who is married to Rohit Raj Goyal, director of her debut show 'Diya Aur Baati Hum', gave birth to her first child on Saturday around 9 pm at a hospital in Mumbai.

Deepika Singh tied the know with Rohit Raj Goyal in May 2014.

While speaking to Bombay Times, Rohit Raj Goyal said, "Both mother and baby are doing fine. We are thrilled and cannot express our happiness. Deepika has been asked to rest for now and I think she needs it the most as she been so strong throughout."

In its fifth year of telecast, 'Diya Aur Baati Hum' witnessed various ups and downs in the lives of its lead pair Sandhya and Sooraj. It was aired on Star Plus, and went off air in September last year.

The show was about a loving husband who helps his ambitious wife achieve her dreams of becoming an IPS officer.

Set against the backdrop of Rajasthan, 'Diya Aur Baati Hum', which was aimed at breaking the stereotypical image of women in rural India, showcased the inspirational journey of Sandhya Rathi (played by Deepika Singh) who along with the help of her husband Sooraj Rathi (Anas Rashid) goes against all odds to become an IPS officer.

The sequel of the TV show has been titled 'Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji'. Starting from where 'Diya Aur Baati Hum' ended, the new Star Plus entertainer takes a leap of 20 years and showcases the Rathi family with a few old and new faces.

The new title of the show, which ran for over five years between 2011 to 2016, has been taken from the original title track of 'Diya Aur Baati Hum'.

Though Deepika and Anas Rashid will not be a part of 'Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji', the new show will be centred around their children Ved and Kanak.
