Borrowing its name from the Indian Penal Code's Section 377, which criminalises homosexuality, director Amit Khanna's All About Section 377 greeted netizens earlier this year. Aimed at highlighting issues faced by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, the eight-episode web series is being remade for the small screen.
"NDTV Prime got in touch with us last month to discuss the formalities and we were elated. They have even bagged a big MNC sponsorship," says Amit, who will helm the TV version too. The series will start airing from November 25.
"The limited online audience gave us encouraging feedback, and by airing it on television, issues of LGBT community will grab more eyeballs," he says.
Amit adds the censors have given the series a green signal, with minor changes. "They had requested us to mute a few words and blur some scenes, but that won't hamper the essence of the show."
Amit has started work on the second season of the series. "Season one educated audience on the LGBT section in urban centres. The next one will focus on rural areas, in a light-hearted way. We are planning to shoot in Punjab."
