It's that time of the year when we celebrate womanhood because we are nearing International Women's Day! Let's talk about women rights, equality and safety because we are awaiting a dedicated day to address it! There are rape cases every day and rape threats every alternate day but we fail to take action and remorse instead on our social media pages. Keeping her head high and with oozing confidence, model-turned-actress Shibani Dandekar talks about the growing rape threats and cases on the latest episode of MTV Troll Police.
Speaking about understanding the psyche of trolls, Shibani said, "Social Media is the way the world works nowadays. So on some level, we have to accept the fact that if we are putting up something on social media we will get positive as well as negative comments. More than finding out who trolls me, I am interested to know why people troll. For me, it is very difficult to understand the mind frame of somebody who would take time to write something hateful or negative on anybody's page for any reason."
Shibani Dandekar is one of those celebrities who is known for her bold attitude and someone who does not shy away from expressing her views. She pays a heavy price for being bold as she is slut-shamed and even termed as a porn star for posting pictures of any clothing. With an intention to teach trolls, a lesson, Shibani Dandekar, will be seen in the upcoming episode of MTV Troll Police where she is persistent to throw the trolls behind the bars who threaten her with vulgar comments.
Addressing the serious issue like rape culture, women safety and its connection to trolling, Shibani said, "As a woman, it's frustrating to understand and accept the fact that there are so many messed up young boys who threaten girls under the pretext of freedom of speech. If these boys do not understand what they are doing is hateful and probably criminal then that's a huge concern because these are the kind of boys that end up stalking women and harassing them."
Questioning the mentally of trolls she added, "When you call me a whore or a slut, what is your understanding of that word? What makes you think that I should be addressed by those names? What makes you think it is ever ok to speak to anyone like this? Why have we become so hateful... why do we feel the need to slander someone or something if we don't like it? It concerns me that we use social media and public platforms to spread hate and say things that are just unkind and unwarranted ... as human being we all have a responsibility to make this world a better place and that starts with acceptance and kindness. I'm glad that MTV has taken an initiative to address this issue and helping all those who are being harassed online. I really hope that it spreads a positive message and we can help people see the error of their ways ."
While giving a befitting reply to her troll, Shibani said, "I will post what I want, when I want, wearing what I want. I don't care what people think about it because I am confident about what I putting on my social media and I know that there is nothing wrong with it. Therefore, if you are going to judge me based on a picture that you do not like than just unfollow meâ¦it's that simple!"
