Kaamnaa
Doing cameos on and off just wouldn't satiate Abhishek Rawat who has returned to mainstream television after five years. He was last seen as the lead in Service Wali Bahu (2015). In the interim, the actor has been trying his hand at digital entertainment. He claims while he was enjoying his downtime, the unique storyline pulled him back into the world of television. "There has been a lot of saas-bahu sagas. Kaamnaa - Hoga Khwaahishon Aur Usoolon Ka Aamna Saamna is a far cry from the usual stories and that's why I jumped at the opportunity," reasons the actor.
The story, set against the backdrop of Bhopal, is a slice-of-life drama of a middle-class couple - Manav and Akanksha who have different ideologies. "Their aspirations and dreams may be different, but they still manage to stay in love with each other." Even though we are in the age of left and right swipes, Rawat insists that the story is relatable. "It is a challenge to put out a love story that is conventional yet authentic. Our target audience are not teenagers who view the world through their apps. They form only a small part of the demographics. Luckily, a majority of couples still believe in old school romance."
Even as he is aware that returning to the small screen will cut short his family time, Rawat is thrilled to return to a dynamic character and the medium that put him on the map. "While OTT has raised the bar of storytelling and content [in the country], the size and scale of the audience and the reach of television is [bigger than] OTT." The actor did two seasons of the SonyLIV series, Married Woman Diaries.
