Rohit Roy, the television heartthrob of the 1990s, achieved resounding success during the heydays of the television industry. However, he recently admitted that his success led to an unfortunate sense of arrogance, which proved detrimental to his career. In a candid interview with Siddharth Kannan, the actor opened up about the bad choices he made in films and how overconfidence clouded his judgment.
Recalling his glory days in the television industry, Rohit Roy acknowledged that at one point, he was even more popular than some of the biggest film stars. This newfound popularity led him to believe that he possessed the mythical 'Midas touch' and whatever he did would turn to gold. Despite the quality of his work suffering, the soaring TRP ratings of his shows gave him a false sense of invincibility.
"I was still doing my work sincerely, but I started thinking that I have a Midas touch. At that point, I was doing such bad work, but it was getting such good TRP, 22, 24, 26. So I started feeling like people will watch whatever I do," Rohit said.
However, his inflated confidence led to poor decisions when it came to choosing films and working with people. He admitted that the scripts he picked in his early days in the film industry were far from satisfactory. His assumption that his mere presence in a film would draw the audience proved to be a fallacy.

"My choices of films were crap, the kind of people I decided to work with was crap, the scripts I picked up in the initial days were crap. My choices were crap only because I thought that I'm there in this film and people will come to watch it for me," Rohit regretfully expressed.
Although he experienced tremendous financial offers, Rohit Roy turned down lucrative opportunities because he was seeking projects that ignited his passion. He reflected on refusing duffel bags full of cash offered during the 1990s, as he was not satisfied with the work's creative appeal.
"In those days, people would offer me duffel bags full of cash, and I would say, 'I am not in the mood, I'm not having fun with this show.' I used to say, 'I am not enjoying the pilot only, what will I do next?'" Rohit recalled.
Even when fellow actor Shekhar Suman advised him to do pilots for the potential monetary benefits, Rohit was hesitant, not realizing the long-term implications of his choices. He now believes that he should have explored such opportunities in retrospect.
Currently participating in Khatron Ke Khiladi 13, Rohit Roy seems to have learned valuable lessons from his past experiences. He hopes to rebuild his career with a renewed sense of humility and a more discerning approach to project selection.
