Singer Sonu Nigam has reacted to the Indian Idol 12-Amit Kumar controversy, as the makers of the singing reality show are facing the heat. The show has been under the scanner ever since Anu Malik returned as a judge, and especially after the Kishore Kumar episode when netizens felt the contestants had "ruined" the legend's numbers by singing "badly." Kishore da's son-singer Amit Kumar, who was the special guest on the show, had claimed in an interview a few weeks ago, that the makers of Indian Idol forced him to appreciate the performance of every participant, whereas he himself did not enjoy the episode.
Reacting to the row, Sonu Nigam, who has previously been part of the show as the judge, has shared a video and expressed his opinion on the same. Sonu shared that he has been following the controversy for quite some time but now he can't bear it anymore. While he emphasised that no one can become Kishore Kumar and not everyone can do justice to his songs, he urged the makers and media to end the controversy and not take advantage of Amit Kumar's silence.

"Woh bahot bade aadmi hain. Pehle baat toh woh Ustad Kishore Kumar ke bete hain. Phir he is a man who has seen the industry much more than us. Humse bahot zyada duniya dekh chuke hain woh. Industry mein kis kis ke saath kaam kar chuke hain aur kab se kaam kar rahe hain. Bahot seedhe aadmi hai, bahot shareef aadmi hai. Kuch bolte nahi hai. He has been quiet and maintained a dignified silence uska aap log undue advantage le rahe hain. (He is a big personality. He is the son of Ustad Kishore Kumar. He has seen the world much more than us. He has worked with the biggies in the industry. He is simple, innnocent, and doesn't like to speak much. But his silence is being taken advantage of)."

Addressing the makers, he added, "You should end this controversy. Indian Idol makers are not at fault for asking someone to encourage the contestants and Amit Kumar is not wrong in saying that he praised the contestants. He did not say anything bad about the contestants. Both makers and Amit Kumar are not at fault. Those who are constantly giving weightage to the issue like Manoj Muntashir or Aditya (Narayan) are at fault...I don't want anybody to say anything against Amit Ji. Humse bahot bade artist hain."
"I request everyone to please, please leave Amit Kumar ji alone and Indian Idol is a great platform. I listen to what the kids are singing on the show and they are great. I request everyone to stay quiet," he said in the video.
