The first season of the Baahubali origin series, starring Mrunal Thakur as young Sivagami and co-created by Arka Media Works and Netflix, was reportedly wrapped up in 2019. It was soon heard that the project was scrapped as the final product did not meet the streaming giant's expectations. Now, rumours are rife that the makers have revived the ambitious venture with a brand new cast.

A member of the new cast reveals, "The date of the shoot remains unclear due to the current situation. The show was to go on floors in May, but now we are looking at June, if the restrictions are lifted." A sprawling set has been long erected at Mira Road, which is lying unused currently. A unit hand says, "We'll shoot in a bio-bubble initially. Detailed storyboarding is underway to ensure that the show adheres to the vision of the OTT platform's creative team." Said to be based on the novel, The Rise of Sivagami, the series will focus on the character's life before she married into the Mahishmati kingdom and her subsequent rise to power. The character was portrayed by Ramya Krishnan in the popular film franchise.
Netflix remained unavailable for comment.
