The festival brings to Mumbai, for connoisseurs of dance and art, some of the leading Classical dance soloists and dance companies. It began four years ago as a personal homage to Arekar's mother. He elaborates about the event, "Classical dance is akin to a river that has flown for many years; significant, vital and yet neglected.

Sindhu is about celebrating the existence of such Classical dance traditions in its pristine glory that has been flowing through ages and seeking what is modernity within the Classical traditions on the other."
