Artist Jamir Sayyad comes from a small town near Pune called Tuljapur but shifted to the city 13 years ago due to financial reasons. "I had a knack for art since I was a kid. Unfortunately, the financial woes of my parents was very bad.

So, I started living with my aunt. She understood my desire to be an artist and after completing my schooling, I enrolled myself in a fine arts programme in Bharti Vidyapeeth," he says.

Initially, Sayyad studied commercial art hoping it would help him earn but it didn't satisfy him so he took up fine arts. "Now I work during the day and paint in the night. Earning a name for myself is more important than earning money through art.

This was what my aunt told me when I was young and had no money to go to college," he adds. At the present exhibition, titled Untitled Art, Sayyad has featured some abstract paintings in acrylic.

Mother's Love by Jamil Sayyad

The artiste showcases various aspects of motherhood and love through his paintings. Mother's Love is his favorite painting from the exhibition.

Commenting on the painting, he says, "Just as a mother showers love on her child while in the womb and after birth, my portrait shows a mother who loves her child and takes utmost care even while in the womb.

Works like these are closely associated to me. My personal experience is that a broken heart inspires the artist inside you. There are some incidents from my life that have left me in such a frame of mind. They always inspire me."
