Avid gamers suggest the best haunts to get your fix of the boardgaming action

This new cafe becomes home for the group, Mumbai Boardgamers (MG), every Sunday. "We host meet-ups and people are welcome to join us. We usually spend about seven to eight hours there," says Karan Vashisht, one of the organisers of MG. "The place has a nice vibe and their collection of games is good."

The month-old Pair a Dice Café has about 125 games - party gams, strategy, abstract, word building, team building, role-playing games. They have three dedicated game guides including the owner Garima Bagrecha, a passionate boardgamer.

Doolally
Most gamers can play anywhere all they need is a large table, a space where they can spend hours without disturbance and enough people. One place that's opened up to gamers over the last year is Doolally. "They have the space, they don't mind people coming in and sitting there for hours. they also have a good collection of games that have improved recently, enough to keep the slightly more experienced gamer happy," says Febin Mathew, engineer. Doolally's shelves have Settlers of Catan, Mono-deal, Code Names, Fletters, Monodeal, Backgammon, and Drunk Stupid Stoned.

Founder Riddhi Dalal is an avid gamer and joins us at times," says Vikas Munipalle, photographer and member of the boardgaming community, Table Top India (TTI). "They have two packages. If you know how to play, you pick up a game and start playing. If you don't, they have a game guru that comes and teaches you, for an extra fee," he says, adding that TTI has organised events at the café (in pic).

Although the place doesn't stock games, Sarda says they've been supportive of people who bring their own games. "They give us the basement space to play. And they don't mind the noise as long as it is controlled."
