Here's looking at fashion trends that hit the mark and those that missed it

High-shine metallics ruled the ramps and are sure to go through to 2018. Be it iridescent, chainmail or sequins, "glow" was the buzzword in the beauty and fashion industry. Here, Shilpa Shetty works a Monisha Jaising gown at the IIFA Awards. pic/pti

Athleisure was one of the biggest body-embracing trends of 2017. From luxe track pants, as seen on Neha Dhupia, to preppy jackets - we could wear sweats to work this year. pic/instagram.com/priyanka86

The disco era made a comeback in the form of jumpsuits, shiny dresses and sequins. Beyoncé rocked a shimmering Peter Dundas gown at the Grammys. pic/getty images

The workwear shirt stopped leading a monotonous life post changes such as cutouts, embroidery on stripes, off-shoulder collars or an asymmetric hem, like Anushka Sharma in Deme. pic/afp

This was the year our designers let the saree be as is rather than turning them into craft projects. Benarasi, Kanjeevarams or cotton linens, Bollywood surely loved flaunting the classics. Pic/ Rane Ashish

Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele (in pic) announced a ban on fur that would come into effect with spring 2018. With this move, it joined fur-free labels such as Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, with the latest name on the list being Michael Kors.

There was a swing in our step thanks to the excessive use of tassels and fringe (be it leather or fabric) on both garments and accessories. Pic/getty images

We are on the fence about message tees. While they do help spread awareness, selling a $750 T-shirt to feminists, LGBTQ campaigners and nature lovers means they need to be deep-pocketed too.

The rich sure love to dress like the poor and the ugly shoe trend spilled over to 2017 too with chunky sporty shoes and platform Crocs. Bulky shoes might look good on a six-feet-tall model, but on us, they look like a bad case of clown feet. pic/getty images

It all started with a simple rip on the knee and before we knew it, things got out of hand with plastic patches and thong or invisible jeans. We hope 2018 puts an end to the rip. pic/instagram. com/thebaut_official
