Journey across centuries through music for Nehru Centre plays host to a musical evening that will feature reputed artistes Prahlad Singh Tipanya and group from Madhya Pradesh as well as Rajasthan's Sabri Brothers.

A Banyan Tree initiative the festival is dedicated to musician-scholar-poet Hazrat Amir Khusrau and saint-poet Kabir. While Khusrau is regarded as the ‘father of qawwali', Kabir has been known for unusual metre and rhythm in his dohas.

The show carries a message of tolerance as both saint-poets, through their lucid prose, simplify life and it's various difficulties.

Musical high
Promising to be an evening, suffused with poetry, the festival's aim is to put their revelatory works to the voices of popular singers such as Nandini Srikar (Duaa, Sapno Se Bhare Naina), Shilpa Rao (playback in Dev D) and Suchi (Gundello in Telugu).
The trio's husky voices will interpret and experiment, while serenading the audiences in the city.

The Kabir-Khusrau festival plays cousin to Ruhaniyat (All India Sufi and Music mystic festival), Barkha Ritu (All India Monsoon Music Festival), Dakshinayan (a Carnatic music festival) and The Splendour of Masters.

All emerge from the Banyan Tree stable, which has been showcasing talent from across India for the last 18 years.
This is the sixth edition of the festival, and it has been curated keeping the aim of encouraging rare performing arts in mind. Padma Shri Prahlad Singh Tipanya and group have been hailed for being one of the most distinct sounds in Indian Folk.

Renowned
for singing Kabir bhajans, the group adheres to Folk style of Malwa in Madhya Pradesh. The Sabri Brothers are the other key highlight of the programme who are known for their riveting qawwalis and hail from Maru Pradesh in Rajasthan. Music aficionados will be enthralled by their act and the duo claims descent from Tansen, the fabled singer in Akbar's court.
