From games that test your strategy skills to those that help you bond with friends, Mumbai Film & Comic Con’s latest outing is an eclectic mix of classic and new board games
Board and card games have a knack of bringing people together. They can be fun, relaxing and nostalgia-inducing. So, if you want to spend a lazy afternoon pouring over board games, head to the Mumbai Film & Comic Con that has organised a gaming session for enthusiasts.
In two hours, you can try your hand at Love letter, a game of risk, deduction and luck for 2-4 players. The goal is to get your love letter into Princess Annette's hands while deflecting billet doux from competing suitors. If you're looking for something more intriguing and exotic, play Istanbul, where you'll be transported to the milling crowd at Istanbul's grand bazaar where merchants and their assistants rush through the narrow alleys in their attempt to be more successful than their competitors. In this, players move around a board of tiles with the help of their assistants, acquiring goods and lira (coins) that can eventually be swapped for rubies, or can be used to fulfill certain other tasks.
If cards pique your interest, No Thanks is a game that you can carry in your backpack and play on-the-go. It can be played even with non-gamers. Here, there are about three to five players who compete to have the lowest score when the last card from the deck is claimed. While No Thanks is about numbers, Dixit: Journey is more abstract. It's a game of trickery, strategy carefully worded descriptions of pictures.
In each round one player takes on the role of Storyteller, choosing one card from his hand, then telling a story, singing a ditty or otherwise doing something that in his or her opinion is associated with the played card. Each player then chooses a card and gives it to the Storyteller in secret. These cards are shuffled and revealed, then players vote on which card was played by the Storyteller.
