If you are a writing enthusiast, curious to delve into the world of myths and fantasies, then Writing Mytho-Fiction is a workshop you may like to sign up for. It is being conducted by For Writers By Authors, a platform for aspiring and accomplished writers, in association with Litventure, a literature festival celebrating contemporary literature.

Shatrujeet Nath

"Humans have always been interested in verbal storytelling, but through it emerge several versions and the true story gets distorted," says Varun Vithaldas, one of the coordinators of the workshop. He adds, "What ties these multiple versions together is the common root of myth and that is what this workshop aims to convey to participants."

Utkarsh Patel

Held over two days, the interactive workshop will be conducted by Shatrujeet Nath, author of the Vikramaditya Veergatha series, and Utkarsh Patel, author of Shakuntala: A Woman Wronged and a lecturer at the Mumbai University. The duo will introduce you to this unique literary world with examples from their own experiences as mythologists.

They will also shed light on the retelling and interpretation of myths. Later, participants will be asked to write and narrate their own mythological stories.

According to Patel, in recent years, an increasing number of young people are realising the importance of mythology. "However, it is misunderstood. While some think that the genre is related to religion, others think a myth means lies and that's the problem." He adds, "So, it is important for people to know what mythology is and isn't, and that is what we aim to explore through this workshop."
