Music fest in Mumbai to feature big names from Hindustani and Classical music circuit

If you are an aficionado of Indian classical music, Music Lineage, the two-day festival, should make it to your weekend plan. The event will feature both Hindustani and Carnatic recitals by renowned names from the circuit, including senior vocalist Padma Shri Aruna Sairam, saxophonist Kadri Gopalnath, vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty, flute wizard Pandit Ronu Majumdar and tabla maestro Pandit Anindo Chatterjee.

Sairam, who will start the proceedings of the festival with a recital, is looking forward to performing in Mumbai. She says the city is close to her heart because she was born here.

"It shaped me into a classical musician," says Sairam, who is the vice chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi. Her performance will be followed by a recital by Gopalnath who will be accompanied by A Taalvadyam on the violin, B Harikumar on the mridangam, Rajendra Nakod on the tabla and B Rajsekar for the morning session.

The second day of the fest will feature a vocal recital by Chakraborty, followed by a unique jugalbandi between Pandit Majumdar and Pandit Chatterjee. "I have performed with so many legends, but this will be my first collaboration with Pandit Majumdar. He is an outstanding musician; he's like my younger brother. I am looking forward to this concert," says Chatterjee. Pandit Majumdar is also excited about sharing stage with the tabla maestro. "It's a privilege that a legendary musician like Anindo ji will accompany me on the tabla," he says.
