Tritha and Martin in performance
Three years ago, when vocalist Tritha Sinha was at a French castle in the picturesque valley of the river Loire, her workshop on Indian classical music concluded with a concert by musician Martin Dubois, known for his interest in Indian ragas. The next time the two met at an organic music festival in the country, they decided to perform together, on a stage atop a tall tree with birds twittering for company. Their diverse training and influences found a common ground and the duo harmonised their musical sensibilities in the Indo-French project, Tritha and Martin.
This Friday, the artistes will perform as a duo in Mumbai for the first time, with the five elements of earth, water, fire, air and space as the theme for the concert. With Sinha lending her voice to ragas and Mongolian di-phonic songs, Dubois will complete the sonic experience with unusual percussion instruments such as the hand-pan (or hang), kora (African harp), singing bowls, kalimbas as well as the tabla and flutes. Tritha and Martin are also regular performers at festivals exploring the healing power of music.
"Our music has a contemporary feel to it, and is rooted in both, the Orient and the Occident. For this concert, all the instruments are carefully harmonised with the frequencies and sounds of nature," shares Sinha over the phone from Bodh Gaya, where they were performing at a humanitarian concert.
