Germany's Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra (SCO) is back in the city as part of the 14th Stuttgart Meets Mumbai festival. Western music aficionados can expect stirring performances over two days, including a recital by the orchestra in association with the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI). Excerpts of an interview with Markus Korselt, general and artistic director, SCO.
How is the upcoming performance special?
It feels great that we will be performing at an event that marks the 50th year of the partnership between SCO and Mumbai.
What can western classical music aficionados expect from the performance?
The event will begin with the national anthems of India and Germany. After which, we will perform two classical masterpieces. Under the direction of concert master Bogdan Boxovic, the SCO will play the famous concerto for cello and orchestra in C major by Joseph Haydn. Nikolaus von Buelow, our soloist, is the section leader of SCO. His performance will be followed by the Serenade for String Orchestra in C major by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, which we play together with nine musicians of the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI). Our performance is set to evoke varied emotions.

You have performed in India beforeâ¦
SCO has a special relationship with India. We have performed in several cities like Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi and Bengaluru in 2008, 2010 and 2011, respectively. We are impressed by the fascinating Indian culture and are looking forward to our fourth Indian outing. Our next tour to India will be in 2019. We hope to get a lot of support to play as many concerts as possible in this beautiful country.
