In a country where a majority of pet seekers veer towards breeds, the stray tends to get overlooked due to preconceived notions about pedigree. To change this perception, a group of enthusiastic first-year marketing students who go by the name of The Chosen Generation (TCG) hope to change these ideas, one little step at a time.
TCG has joined hands with Side By Side, a social initiative of Blitz & Nick Company pet sitters and boarders, and the Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD), a non-profit trust dedicated to helping street dogs, to help spread awareness about strays or pariahs. At this event, volunteers will be working towards removing prejudices that people might have against strays. "Strays are as good as any other dogs. While people are adopting different breeds, our very own pariahs are being neglected. This is our attempt to help people see and think clearly. We will also be educating them on how to groom and train their dogs. A few strays from the WSD will also be up for adoption," says 18-year-old Richa Choksi, member of TCG.
"This event is basically an initiative by a bunch of students who wanted to educate people about Indie dogs. What we want to say is that let's not discriminate anymore. On the day, I'll be having a chat with [popular TV host and dog lover] Cyrus Broacha, a groomer and a behaviourist. We'll be there to answer all the questions that people may have. Some of our dogs will also be present for visitors to play and maybe take pictures with. All the proceeds will go to WSD for upkeep and welfare," reveals Abodh Aras, CEO of WSD. Also, while you're there, don't forget to make some wishes from the Wishing Tree come true for these cute creatures.
