Check out a new electronic duo, iblinkwhenithink, as they perform songs that talk about the feelings surrounding friendship, late-night drives, and heartbreak

When pop music first came into the mainstream, it was devoid of vocal processors, fancy gadgets and loop machines. Over time, the rawness of the genre may have vanished, but there are still a few bands that are trying to keep the integrity of pop music alive while also keeping up with the times. One such band is iblinkwhenithink, a straightforward set-up by Rishav Kapur and Tanvi Dhobale, started in January this year. Their songs are simple and talk about emotions youth can connect with. Kapur -- who sat home for over a year to compose and arrange the tracks -- runs through the band's catalogue ahead of a performance.

"We have been playing for six months, and response from listeners has been great. Also, being on the same page with each other in terms of our sound has been our high point," says Kapur, who tells us he met Tanvi in 2010. "She had called me for feedback about the audio engineering college I was studying in [SAE Institute]. She ended up joining the same college, and we became friends, which led to jam sessions. Then, I played the guitar for her at one of the open mics being held in the city, and she started helping me with production and singing when I decided to go live," adds the 30-year-old, who uses a vocal processor to create an ambient voice.

The duo will play a set of 16 songs at the gig. "There will be a few new tunes like We Didn't Last [a break-up song], Don't, and Celebration. The songs do not have any specific message, but are an expression of feelings. For example, the desire to go out on a late-night drive with my best friend inspired me to write a song called Our Last Journey. A long conversation with a close friend over coffee on a rainy day helped me write Coffee," he shares.

The process to work on a sound filled with electronic elements didn't come easy. "Tanvi takes care of the loop, so there is less pressure on me. The course of action became easier after a lot of practice," informs Kapur, who is not eyeing a record deal anytime soon. "The vision is to keep working on the sound patiently, and play gigs along the way."
