Generation Z does not shy away from going beyond the conventional norms and indulging in unique and quirky experiments; basically, having fun with fashion and being comfortable in their own skin. It is one of the reasons why they brilliantly pick elements from popular global fashion trends, mix and match and add a personal touch to their look, whether clothes or hairstyles.
From buns to layers to rebellious cuts, the GenZ is experimenting with trend-setting hairstyles to enhance their fashion sense. This is irrespective of the hair length and type. Adding to it the influence of fashionable stars like Billie Eilish, Hailey Bieber, Gigi Hadid, Blackpink and BTS stars, from fox, layers and bob cuts to letting their hair loose with chunky and pop-coloured accessories, there is a style for everyone.
A mix of Y2K and K-pop
GenZ is obsessed with Korean pop and drama among other popular cultures such as the Japanese Kawaii and the western hip-hop. A lot of Korean fashion influences have inspired young Indians to regularly include cute-looking hair accessories to their everyday hairstyle. This is in addition to adding a little bit of colour, fringe and sleekness to their hairdo.
As digital content creator Araiya Bhattacharjee puts it the Y2K aesthetics comeback appears to be manifesting in both overtly allusive and more suggestive ways. "The reel generation has showcased both costumes they would choose if they were a pop star in the 2000s and ensembles from the time that were supposed to more than accurately evoke the period," she adds.

According to Asha Hariharan, education director and celebrity artist at Enrich Beauty, the influences of Korean entertainment and series from the bubblegum era of the 2000s have dropped one of the trendiest fashion statements of the season that are âhair accessories'. From scrunchies, glitter cosmetics and butterfly clips to bandanas, headbands and bows, the list of chic accessories is an ever-growing one.
"The headgears, accessories portray so many personalities and aesthetics very well. From the badass grunge rock looks to soft-core fairies, GenZ is getting better at showcasing their diversity," says digital content creator Hitika Sachdev.
Nine simple GenZ hairstyles one must try
Experts Hariharan and Bhattacharjee share some voguish hairstyles and experiments that the young are slaying in:
Broccoli Cut
The wet mop and the broccoli haircut are both popular TikTok hairstyles. The look, which is long on top and sharply cropped or faded on the sides, is really a decades-old shape that has developed through time.
Middle parts
The younger generation loves their middles. Gen Z starlets and pop stars seldom have side parts, and even boys are adopting the 'butt cut,' which was despised for two decades. These two styles emphasise effortlessness and ambivalence about loudness.
Baby Braids
They're also useful, and they're especially beneficial for those wanting to grow out bangs or remove short layers from the front of the face.
Sleek front braids
Braids can never go wrong. The sleek braided hairstyle is easily achievable. Partition your hair in a preferred way. Further, grab two sections of your hair to make tiny braids. You can add up more braids if you want to add that extra glam.
Bubble ponytail
Bored of your regular ponytail? This Gen Z hairstyle will come to your rescue. You can tie up your Rapunzel hair into a bubble ponytail. Collect your hair and make a high ponytail. Make bubbles and secure them with the hair tie bands. Spray hair serum to make your bubble ponytail last for a longer time.
Mini butterfly clips hairdo
Gen Z knows how to look cool and chic without taking extra effort. This butterfly hairstyle is as easy as chewing a pack of gum. Grab some butterfly clips to create this cute hairstyle. Remove a preferred partition on your hair and add these butterfly clips to look cuter than the real butterflies.
Space buns
As the name suggests, these are an upgraded version of buns. This is a 90s hairstyle that Gen Z cannot resist. Space buns can be created by just making two high ponytails. Further, wrap these ponytails into a bun. That's it! Your space buns are ready.
Curtain hair streaks
The K-pop trend has influenced major social media platforms. We shouldn't refrain from mentioning the TikTok hair color trends. The curtain hair streaks took the internet by storm. If you are someone who loves to experiment with colours, this hairstyle is made for you. All you have to do is colour the front two strands of your hair.
Ariana Grande ponytail
You must be living under a rock if you are unaware of the Ariana Grande ponytail. This hairstyle would look the best on any hair texture. Begin with applying hair serum, detangle the knots and make a high pony using an elastic black rubber band. Lastly, take a hair strand, wrap it around your elastic hairband and secure it with a bobby pin.
