Burger binge in Malad! Ditch SoBo hotspots to hop on to this trail

Ditch hotspots in Bandra and Colaba to hop on to a trail in the northern suburb that promises mean T-Bone steaks and jaw-breaking burgers

When 38-year-old software professional and foodie Augustine Correa approached 300 members of Mumbai Meat Marathon, a closed group on Facebook, to recommend good red meat burger options, he received interesting responses. While the list included the usual suspects in Bandra and Colaba, many had also voted for haunts in Malad. "These restaurants are fairly new, so we've decided to check them out," says Correa, who has plotted a burger and steaks trail in the northern suburb tonight. He clarifies, "It's strictly a red meat burger trail because a good burger can be made only with lamb, pork or beef."

The trail has been organised by Goshtbusters, a group that Correa co-founded four years back, which conducts regular meat-based food trails across the city. Open to 10 guests (a few spots were still available at the time of going to press), the trail offers three stops, located roughly 15 minutes away from each other. Guests can bring their vehicles. It starts with Stacks And Racks situated on New Link Road and moves on to Jimi's Burger and later, Hungry Duck. At each eatery, you'll get to try dishes from the reccos thrown up by the foodies on the group, and the bill will split among the guests, adding up to '500-'750 per stop.

On Tonight, 8 pm to 11 pm
Starts from Stacks And Racks, Malad (W).

Stop 1: Stacks And Racks
Dressed in blue, red and white, the three-month-old all-American diner features an extensive menu of burgers and steaks. It's helmed by chef Navin Cardoz, who comes with over a decade of experience as the head chef of a cruise line operator in America. With meats imported from Brazil, Australia and Texas, the reccos are T-Bone Steak ('449), Striploin Steak ('349), BBQ Pork Ribs ('349) where a rack of hickory smoked ribs are served with whiskey slaw, Cuban Mojo Sandwich ('229) with marinated pork, ham and Swiss cheese, and tenderloin-laced Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich ('249).
At Shop 1, Ganga Nivas, opposite Toyota Showroom, Link Road, Malad (W).

Stop 2: Jimi's Burger
Ask anyone in Evershine Nagar to suggest the ideal haunt for a burger challenge and they will point you to Jimi's Burger. On its menu is a section called Jawbreaker offering massive seven-inchers packed with layers of patties, cheese and sauces. In this trail, try Hybrid Jawbreaker ('500) comprising pork and beef patties, four varieties of cheese, bacon, egg and chorizo jam. If it's too much to handle, opt for Chorizo Pork Burger ('250) or Hawaiian Beef Burger ('250) featuring teriyaki-glazed ground tenderloin patty and grilled pineapple. As you dig in, you might hear guitar riffs from the kitchen, considering the owner of this less-than-two-year-old outpost is Jimmy Bhore, the lead singer of metal band, Zygnema.

At Shop No 8, Navjeevan Society, opposite People's Gym, Evershine Nagar, Malad (W).

Stop 3: Hungry Duck
Though it's just a three-month-old sibling of Pali Hill's Hungry Duck, the Malad outlet offers an equally expansive menu featuring pizzas, pastas, salads and desserts. However, its specialty is the Goan fare that includes Sorpotel, Vindaloo and an East Indian style Duck Moilee. Since this is a burger trail, the team will stick to Duck Meat Burger ('250), Goa Sausage Burger ('295) that features an egg too and Roast Pork Burger ('325). That's as good as it gets, right?
At Ground floor, Lourdes Heritage, Orlem, Malad (W).
