Angelic-looking Selena Gomez, who was typecast in her cute-sy avatar till now, is going all out to don a bolder image with her new album, which is evident from the racy video of her new single, Come and Get It. The song, which is high on up-tempo beats and Indian influences, is making quite a flutter on music charts. Excerpts from an interview:
Tell us something about your new album, Stars Dance.
Stars Dance is greatly inspired by dance, just like I am. I am hooked into all kinds of Dance music and I have brought in these elements in the album. A bit of Dubstep, funky sounds, and hooks that make you groove are all seen in Stars Dance.
Come and Get It is different from your regular style. Was it a conscious move?
As compared to my previous records, I have had a creative say in this record. Also, I deliberated a lot, as I was keen on doing something I enjoy.
The song has a constant tabla beat and an Indian touch. Why did you decide to go ahead with that?
Indian music fascinates me. It comprises amazing sounds, which have a distinctive blend, yet a universal tone to it. So, I decided to go ahead and use it in my songs and I'm happy with the outcome. I am learning about Indian culture and everything I understand is
so amazing.
Would you like to come to India for a tour?
Absolutely! I hope to come there at the earliest, as I know I have numerous fans in India.
Recently, you gave a bold, racy performance in Milan. Are you trying to build au00a0new image?
I am reinventing, experimenting, trying out different things. I'm just 21, so I do not think I need to build an image. But yes -- I would love to do something new and exciting than what I have done in the past.
What sort of a challenge is it to attain success so early in life? Is it overwhelmingu00a0at times?
I feel I am blessed to get a platform wherein I get to explore so many sides of myself. I can be a glamourised version of me performing or just recording, yet I get to go back home and be my usual self. I don't feel it's difficult, as I am not overwhelmed by my success, rather I am grateful and humbled by the support my fans have given me across thousands of miles.
Tell us about your future plans.
After the tour, I will be pursuing acting, probably for a long time. But that is the plan for now. You never knowâ¦I might change my mind; we women tend to do that au00a0lot, right?
