This year, pay tribute to the Mahatma on his birthday by spinning cotton on the charkha. A leading city mall is giving people the opportunity to learn to use the charkha and spin cotton on it, to celebrate the Mahatma's birthday.
The charkha, which was immortalised by Gandhiji, is seen as a symbol of self-reliance and entrepreneurship. Having worn cotton and Khadi many a time in the past, this is the first time one will get the opportunity to actually use the charkha and the excitement levels are high.
The workshop is free and will be conducted by a student ofu00a0 Gandhian TRK Somaiya throughout this weekend. Somaiya Kaka, as he is fondly called, belongs to the Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal.
There will be many grand charkhas on display and as you try your hand at them, you will realise the importance and relevance of the Khadi cloth.
