Bollywood can't afford him, says the czar of Indian couture Manav Gangwani,u00a0 before his first show in the city this Friday
Practically the whole of Bollywood is your friend. They must be coaxing you to design for them in films. Why don't you do that? Is being Delhi-based the reason?
They certainly have and there are a few song sequences for movies that I have done as special cases. But movies take up way too much time, which I am really short of. Besidesu00a0 my brand is super expensive for all the production houses. In Bollywood, the budgets for costumes are still negligible compared to the other expenses, which is not the case in Hollywood.
Recently your caustic comments on a fashion critic on Twitter created quite an uproar. What incurs your wrath in the fashion industry?
The industry doesn't incur my wrath at all. After all I am a part of it. But there are a few people who go beyond acceptable limits and obviously I reacted! I wrote on a public platform in my space and am sure that particular journalist got the message.
Most Indian designers tend to confuse couture with wedding trousseau. Not you. But isn't pret and diffusion where the money is for someone who does your kind of couture?
Designing is not just about the money. It's about the creativity and couture is my passion. But I do plan to start a pr t line in the near future. But the garments will still retain their element of glamour.

u00a0Zayed is family to me. This has no relevance to the fact that he is from Bollywood. We share a terrific rapport and that's what matters.

The last grand wedding you designed for was Vijender Singh's. Any other high profile wedding in the pipeline?
I am designing for a big wedding and and shall do a media release at the right time.
You are launching a store in Dubai. What are your aspirations as far as the international fashion scene is concerned?
I want to establish my brand across the world and I am in the process of doing so.
You also sketch your favourite people. Who are the people you have sketched already and who else is on your wish list?
I have painted Karan Johar, Simi Garewal, Raveena Tandon Thadani. I would love to paint Zayed, SRK, Paris Hilton and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.u00a0

What are the trends for the season in terms for colours, fabrics, silhouettes and styles?
Colors - Ivories, yellows and oranges. Fabrics - Velvets, chiffons, french lace, silks and satins. Silhouette - Innovative and experimental as well as stunning saris. Style - Elegant and classic
What's your view on the Bangalore fashion scene? Who are your clients from the city? What are your views on the fashion sense of the people here?
It's an emerging fashion destination and people are aware and conscious of the latest trends. I know few people from Bangalore, likeu00a0 Lara Dutta and Siddhartha Mallaya. But theyu00a0u00a0 are also considered as Mumbaiites.
What are your forthcoming projects? Are there any international celebrities you are designing for?
I would rather not reveal either at present but yes, I am doing some international projects which shall be revealed at the right time.

What's the best and the worst thing that's happened to fashion this year?
Best would be the open mindedness of people towards experimental silhouettes and the worst is yet to happen (just kidding)!!!
