Dear Diana,
I am 23 and have just taken up a job at a travel agency. I don't have a boyfriend, but have quite a few male friends. I am close to one of the guys and have known him for the past five years. We are the best of buddies and were in the same class, too.
He has not dropped any hints that he likes me. However, when I talk about having a boyfriend, he tends to get upset. I can sense it because he turns unusually quiet when I talk about it. Once I blatantly asked him if he's in love with me and he just smiled.
Perhaps, he was embarrassed by my question. At times, I feel that he likes me, but then he mostly behaves like a buddy. I am confused. How do I find out what he feels about me? I know that best buddies often end up together. I am extremely fond of him and not knowing what he feels about me is making me wonder if I am actually in love with him or if it's just infactuation.

Dear Pallavi,
First of all, you need to clear your muddled mind. Do you consider him as a pal or as someone whom you are deeply in love with? You have to ask yourself the question. From the looks of it, he might also be in love with you. He is perhaps shy and does not know how to tell you.
His mind might be as muddled as yours. As you are still young, he wants to be sure before telling you that he sees you more than just a buddy. You say he gets upset when you talk about guys who you are interested in. This is a clear indication that he likes you.
So start dropping hints about your feelings and gauge his reaction. If you know him well, what is stopping you from asking him directly? It's always better to talk things out than living with doubts.
