A matchmaking app focuses on needs of the differently-abled and helps them find 'the one'
Match point
Moving away from traditional matchmaking portals, there's a breath of fresh air: now, differently-abled people can find the special one. Lovability is a new mobile app that aims to connect differently-abled people with prospective partners.
Kalyani Khona, founder of Wanted Umbrella says, "We were disheartened with the attitude of existing matrimonial websites towards people with disabilities, and felt the need to do something about it. So, to test the waters, we started with the Matrimony Project for research. Initially, we took a few registrations and were surprised to find that most of the applicants didn't even consider themselves marriageable."
Khona added that through their continued research, they were able to learn that people with disability, like anyone else, spend a lot of time on the Internet. "Nearly 60% of our 300 interviewees spent more time on mobile than PC/laptop since they have limited options to go out because of inaccessible public locations," she elaborates.
How does Loveability work?
>> People can sign up with their Google or Facebook accounts.
>> They can create their profiles with details such as medication, possibility of cure, level of independence. They can choose and alter their privacy settings.
>> They can view other profiles and invite them to connect and interact through the chat option.
What about safety?
Understanding the need for a secure platform, Khona reasons, "We have privacy measures in place not just at the log in and registration stage, but we also gauge what information should be shared with public profiles, private profiles (those who have accepted your invite) and potential profiles. Thus, we ensure the safety of the users where all profiles are authenticated."
