On World Disability Day, we suggest you join hands with the Give Some Space campaign working towards making the city a disabled-friendly place
Two friends, one initiative and a thought that could be a voice for every disabled individual in the city. Meet Sweta Mantri and Visshal Sawant, two differently abled young enthusiasts behind Give Some Space, a campaign working towards getting in place the right infrastructure for people with a handicap.
"We have faced a lot of infrastructural issues due to our disability. We have encountered problems across various areas in the city where buildings and other centres are not disabled-friendly. We get a lot of sympathy but not accessibility," shares Sweta .
Stressing on the fact that accessibility is empowerment, they will be conducting a day-long activity on World Disability Day (December 3).u00a0
Strong-willed and not letting their own disabilities come in the way of their mission, Sweta and Vishal aim to reduce physical and social barriers that prevent the differently-abled from joining the mainstream and hope to eventually create a space for themselves in society.u00a0
The activities which will be conducted include distributing bookmarks that convey the importance of a barrier free/ accessible space. They will also be giving details of their campaign at malls across Pune alongwith showcasingu00a0banners at public places.
"We want to reach the masses and communicate. We will also be putting up an acknowledgement note saying Thank you, for having a disabled-friendly environment," informs Sweta.
They are looking for volunteers who are willing to join them for the campaign. So, lend a hand for a good cause.u00a0
