FYI settled for a quickie with Rajvi Mohan, who likes her designs strictly on men
Man, i fell like a woman: Rajvi Mohan |
Why menswear?
I always wanted to design a well-tailored, perfect suit. I specifically chose to design menswear because it gives me a chance to think out of the box and create a new design lingo. I always wondered what exactly goes on in a man's head. So, it was a creative challenge of sorts that drew me to it.
Must be tough in a man's world.
No doubt. The male psyche is quite different from the female one. One needs to be clear about the man you want to design for.u00a0 While designing garments, I think about how a guy would react to it. But as a woman, I can judge whether something will look good on a particular guy or not.
But isn't menswear restrictive?
I believe in breaking boundaries. The more restrictions I have, the more I am compelled to do something better. It gives me a high. I love the challenges involved, and I think of how I can manipulate the limited things that I have to experiment with.
For quite sometime, you weren't on the 'scene'.
I wanted to be invisible for sometime. But then, everyone started telling me to showcase at a fashion week. And I finally appeared at the Delhi Fashion Week last year. Then, I showcased at the Van Huesen India Men's week this September. And there's more coming.
