All eyes on the accessories

When the curtains go up on the Fashion Week, don't be surprised if you spot names of accessory designers vying for space, alongside the big daddies from the fashion industry.u00a0Here's proof - 11 accessory designers will participate in this edition - Kaabia and Sasha Grewal, Rohan Arora and Nitya Arora in the main shows, Neha Sharma, Felix Bendish, Sannam Chopra, Saurabh Kant Shrivastava at the Talent Box while four others will display their lines at the Source.

Kaabia from the Grewal sister duo feels, "As far as jewellery is concerned, India still does not have the balance between buying gold and fashion jewellery. When you mention jewellery, the emphasis is on gold." Rohan adds, "People here won't think before splurging on a designer outfit, but they will not necessarily spend much on a designer accessory. However, these past few years, they are beginning to realise that accessories can jazz up the simplest of clothes." Felix Bendish reveals that internationally, fashion houses gain more revenue from perfumes and accessories. "As people travel across the globe, they are able to figure that it's easier to get that perfect look when one has the right accessory," says Felix.

Rohan Arora's collection will be an ode to Bollywood

About their collection, Kaabia says, "Our collection is inspired by the fierce lion and it is for the woman who loves to break boundaries. We've introduced a lot of gold. It's playful and edgy." Felix who will make his debut at the Fashion Week, will showcase a collection inspired by French artist Henri Matisse's The Goldfish painting: "My collection is a mix of neckpieces, clutches and brooches; everything will be embroidered." He advises on stocking up on the tangerine shade; it might be the next big thing in the coming months.

Bollywood was footwear designer Rohan Arora's inspiration: "My collection is called Item; I've taken a cue from the buzz that item girls and boys have created in the industry. There are plenty of ghungroos and bright colours. Everyone loves to be in the limelight; there is a hidden item girl or boy in all of us. The movie might flop but people remember the song; likewise your outfit might be a flop but you can salvage it with the footwear." With the festive season around the corner, Rohan feels that embroidery and loud colours will be around for a while. He suggests wedges or platforms, as they are most comfortable, "…especially with all the dancing!"u00a0
