Architecture of Consequence, a travelling exhibition showcasing the works of Dutch architects, offers a variety of solutions to urban problems
Where there is a need, there is an opportunity. Architecture of Consequence, a travelling exhibition from the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAI), takes this thought forward in some style. The exhibition will showcase digital photographs by leading Dutch architectural firms that provide solutions to urban problems such as lack of space and lack of low-income housing.u00a0
As part of Architecture of Consequence, designers will present projects that can help address mass housing and water management issues

It features recent designs alongside selected ideas from the 19th and 20th centuries. Organised by the Consulate General of the Netherlands and the Dutch Design Workspace in India, the exhibition, which is on in Mumbai till March 22, will also travel to Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Pune.

Says Anuradha Gupta, director of Dutch Design Workspace India, "The idea is to promote the thought that architecture can create a better society. It will help Indian architecture students to understand how designers make the best use of space. Juxtaposing work of the past and the present will enable them to understand the concerns of architects in the past and give an overall perspective of history."

The exhibition is part of Architecture of Consequence, a programme undertaken by the NAI since 2009 where young designers are urged to present projects and ideas that can help build a sustainable future in terms of urban planning and landscape design.

Some of the interesting projects that will be on display include the pictorial story of a park called Northala Fields that was built utilising substantial volumes of imported construction rubble and Noorderparkbar, a coffee bar, which was built using second-hand materials.u00a0

Architecture of Consequence features 60 works. But due to space constraints, only 35 will be displayed in Mumbai.u00a0

Still, there should be plenty of ideas up on display, which could provide Eureka moments for Mumbai's town planners and top architects.u00a0
