The Diary is a continuous sequence of art works by artist Sujata Dharap, in which each image flows after the other depicting the entire year, just like your diary. Dharap has held exhibitions at many renowned galleries in India and this exhibition is on at the Art2Day gallery till August 14. She has designed over 75 murals in different mediums and she also works as a colour consultant to architects. Talking about The Diary, she says, "Some of the works are completely opposite, some fully cluttered, and others are empty which create void and solitude. Few of them are dramatic, energetic and buoyant."
Artworks by Sujata DharapThe most unique feature of all the paintings is that they have no frame and seem to be seamless. "Events overlap, juxtapose in an interesting visual format and at times come to a standstill. Such events have made a mark on my journey and they become a kind of baggage I carry. 'The Diary' is one such baggage that I've carried with me that has become a part of 'I'," shares Sujata. Sujata believes that painting is a kind of self-revelation. "It is a dialogue between me and myself," she explains. "Creating unknown images that appear spontaneously on the canvas, is as exciting as a journey to an unknown destination," she adds.
Sujata has been teaching children art clay modeling and pottery for the last 22 years. She has travelled extensively in the US, Singapore, Indonesia and France to study the art and architecture there.u00a0 She feels that with every canvas begins a new relationship with the unknown. "A tension prevails till the brush stops and the mind is at rest.u00a0 The power therefore, lies in the feeling that manifests itself in various forms, surfaces and transforms into a pictorial language that needs to be experienced more than understood," she signs off.u00a0
