An exhibition of 40 paintings highlighting the traditional art of Gujarat will be exhibited at Darpan Art Gallery. It includes a record holding painting depicting Kalidasa's epic poem Meghdoot


An exhibition of 40 paintings highlighting the traditional art of Gujarat will be exhibited at Darpan Art Gallery. It includes a record holding painting depicting Kalidasa's epic poem Meghdoot

Bringing the traditional art of Gujarat to the city are a group of four artists. It includes Professor Nandaubhai Rathwa, VL Mewada, Param Gajjar and Kanu Patel, who will be displaying their artworks at Darpan Art Gallery.
The exhibition, titled Choukon, will include 40 oil paints, water colours and acrylic on canvas paintings.

The exhibition will be inaugurated today by renowned cartoonist SD Phadnis and senior artist Murli Lahoti. u00a0
Speaking about the artworks, Nandubhai Rathwa said, "My painting depicts modern life vis-a-vis tradition."u00a0

The exhibition will also include unique paintings based on Kalidasa's composition Meghdoot made by Param Gajjar which has got him an entry into the Limca Book of Records in 2011. Talking about the painting, Gajjar says, "This painting portrays the 120 shlokas of Meghdoot and the painting is 148 feet long."

Each painter will display their own unique style in the form of nature, portrait and daily life paintings. The artists will be present at the venue and look forward to interact with the visitors who will be attending the show.
