In a first-of-its-kind experiment that might intrigue art and car aficionados alike, artworks by Indian and Nepali artists go on display from today inside a car showroom, to celebrate the launch of the BMW 6 Series
Art and cars. This unlikely match will actually merge at the same space when An Amalgam of Creativity, an art exhibition featuring Indian and Nepali artists and organised by the Gaekwad Art Foundation at Worli's BMW showroom opens today. "The artistic splendour of the BMW 6 Series is best complimented by fine art," says Pooja Chaudhari, managing director of Infinity Cars.

Their attempt to encourage and promote upcoming artists also happens to be the first time that an art exhibition will be organised at a car showroom. The organisers are hoping for a great response keeping in mind the novelty of the location.
When asked how the idea of organising an art exhibition amidst cars emerged, Chaudhary says, "There have been many art exhibitions in BMW showrooms abroad. We decided to try it out for the first time, as the 6 series is a creative, attractive and artistic wonder, which will compliment the works of good artists. Moreover it was for a good cause." Of the five artists showcasing their work, Manish Lal Shrestha, Kiran Manandhar, Shashi Bikram Shah are from Nepal while Ananta Mandal and Suresh Pushpangathan will represent India. Each artist's works is different and range from portraits and cubic style works to modern art.
The Gaekwad Art Foundation, which was founded about five years back by Princess Asha Raje Gaekwad, has been striving to promote and encourage talented artists. Having been born and brought up in an art-loving family in Nepal, Raje's love and understanding of art has matured over the years.
"There are many organisations and groups that promote artists in India but there are very few who do it in Nepal. So, I decided to take on the onus of finding artists who need support there," says Raje. Though she has made India her home for over 40 years, the Princess visits Nepal at least twice a year to find fresh talent.
