The Mumbai dealership will kick-start BMW Motorrad’s operations in India officially

The 2016 Auto Expo saw BMW make a formal announcement about launching its motorcycles in India officially, and ever since, enthusiasts have been waiting for the brand to formally launch its products here. Mumbai-based Navnit Motors, who has had a long standing relationship with the brand as franchisee till recently will now boast of opening the first ever official BMW Motorrad dealership in India, under the aegis of BMW India.

Come April 12, and the dealership will be functional, and since the Mumbai showroom will be inaugurated before the Pune dealership, which opens its doors on April 14, Navnit Motors will effectively have first ever BMW Motorrad dealership in India. The showroom will display the German brand's CBU offerings from all four product families, namely the Sport, Tour, Enduro and Roadster.

Sadly, there is no official news about the India launch of the BMW G 310 R nor the G 310 GS, and the bikes are expected to be launched only next year, once BMW Motorrad has a proper dealer network in place. Vikram Pawah, formerly MD of Harley-Davidson India, has recently joined the German brand as President of India operations for the entire BMW Group, including BMW cars, Mini and BMW Motorrad. It should be interesting to see how Pawah helps the German brand, which is a big name in the luxury car space, also grow in the rapidly growing premium/performance motorcycle space in the country.

BMW Motorrad will take on established motorcycle brands like Ducati, Triumph, MV Agusta, Kawasaki and the like, and despite being one of the last such brands to enter the Indian market, BMW Motorrad is expected to do well given its strong and globally acclaimed product line-up.
