A festival of modern contemporary dance inspired from the philosophy of body movements comes to the capital
Dance over several ages has proved to be one of the most creative methods of expression and enlightening ones body and soul.
A contemporary dance takes the form of a narrative when the performers move in a variety of ways, focusing on breathing, posture, and emotional state to establish a mind-body connection. To establish this connection Gati Summer Dance Residency has come up with a dance festival, 'All Warmed Up 2011' which will
showcase six choreographers honing their moves under the guidance of three mentors- Maya Krishna Rao,
Chris Lechner and Anusha Lall.
Strange land of traumatised victims
Today Surjit, Rukmini and Niranjani will take the audience on an emotional ride with their modern and post-modern dance moves. The piece OneVoice performed by Nongmeikapam Surjit is silent description of the connection between a victim and a torturer whereas "u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0 ." by Rukmini Vijayakumar is primarily a choreographic study on 'movement initiation'. Around the wandering shadow by Niranjani Iyer is the description of the movement of human body around unknown places.
A non-romantic touch of body
On June 16, Mehneer Sudan will perform a piece that explains intimacy within unfamiliarity existing between masseuse and her client. Deepak Kurki Shivaswamy, on the other hand, will perform a non-romantic solo piece LVOE that raises questions on the need of materialistic things in romance. Playing with time, space and body movements, the artist explains what is 'appropriate' and what is 'apparent' in the present society.
The body floats between the seen and the unseen, the everyday and the sacred, the vertical and the horizontal in Floating Sphere by Mayuka Ueno Gayer.
Exposure unlimited
In all, dance lovers in the city can get a peek-a-boo into the contemporary dance scenario of the world apart from having a space for interaction, exchange and interrogation with the choreographers.
