Bring life to Gulzar's words

Known for lending his voice to some of Bollywood's most lilting tracks including Beeti Na Bitai Raina, Naam Gum Jayega and Ek Akela Iss Shehar Mein, Bhupinder Singh is undoubtedly one of the most talented singers in the industry. He and his wife Mitali Singh, are extremely popular for rendering ghazals as well as for their stage performances, which they have been giving for 25 years. To celebrate their journey together, they have released an album titled, Aksar - their second album with Gulzar.

"Bhupinder's association with Gulzarsaab goes back a long time. They had worked together on an album called Woh Jo Shayar Tha in 1980. The equation we share with Gulzarsaab is very different. We work together and interact on a daily basis," shares Mitali Singh. The trio worked together about four years ago to bring out the album, Chand Parosa Hai, which was a success.

According to Mitali, Aksar once again brings together these three music icons, to produce wonderful music. "Gulzarsaab loves Bhupinder's compositions. He had once said that his compositions are best sung by Bhupinder," she adds. The album has 10 songs with soulful lyrics by Gulzar and music compositions by Bhupinder. "These 10 songs reflect 10 different moods of Gulzar's singing," explains Mitali. The album includes just one duet by the husband-wife duo.

Instant inspiration
When quizzed about this Mitali reveals the story behind it. "Our 19-year-old son who is also a guitarist like his father, played a tune on the guitar, which Bhupinder really liked. He started humming and composed a tune, instantaneously. Gulzar saab then wrote the song Neeli Neeli Ankhiyon Se Jhanke Re Samandar Jhankey, to the music. The rest are either male or female songs. So, they are solos," she explains.
