In this day and age of instant results, timesaving tools and fast-paced lives, most of us abstain from doing things for the society. While several of us want to contribute our bit, half of the time, it's either too complicated or there is simply a lack of time. Taking a cue from that, actor Kunal Kapoor and his friend Varun Sheth decided to launch Ketto, an online platform where people can contribute to a cause closest to their heart and start making an impact instantly.
"Over the years, I have worked with various NGOs that are aiming to make a difference in health, education and other spaces. I have also constantly come across people who want to contribute and be a part of initiatives but don't know how to go about it. They have no knowledge of where to start and which step will be better. So, basically to make things easier, Varun and I got together to create a technological platform that bridges the gap between the cause and people who want to be part of it," says Kapoor (Be)cause it's simpleu00a0The concept is very simple. All one has to do is to go online and log on to Ketto, find his/her favourite organisation, project or fundraiser, support the cause by making a contribution to it with even a sum as little as Rs 100 and then share it with everyone over the Internet by means of a tweet, blog, email, or via Facebook. People can also start their own onlineu00a0fundraising campaigns.
"The idea was to keep it as simple as possible, something close to going online to buy a book," informs Kapoor, who also stresses that there is no administration fee, only payment gateway charges apply. A proper and clear feedback on the utilisation of the contribution is given to the payer. All NGOs that are featured on Ketto are screened for accountability and an instant 80G tax receipt is given after payment.
The Dream Machine
The current project that the team is giving online support to is The Dream Project, an initiative where several underprivileged kids from across India were asked about one dream that they would like to be fulfilled. After the exercise, 1,000 kids' dreams were selected and now they are looking for funds for their fulfillment. "Ketto is the online partner of this initiative where you can come and donate and contribute your bit to the cause to fulfill the dreams of these kids," confirms Kapoor.
