Devyani Nalawade's solo exhibition in Delhi is an extension of her forte which is painting with vivid colours
Armed with a Masters in Art from SNDT, Pune, Devyani Nalawade completed her schooling and higher education from Mumbai. She had a flair for colours and dabbled in water colours from childhood and eventually shifted to oil on canvas. Her forte has always been colours and at her fourth exhibition in Pune, that is exactly what art lovers can expect.
Talking about the theme of her exhibition Nalawade says, "Seasons have always inspired me. I like working with vivid colours and nature is almost always my muse. The places that I visit and the people that I meet also inspire me. Recently I had gone to the Himalayas and it was a pleasant feeling; an artist feels inspired."
Art by Devyani Nalawade
Nalawade has exhibited her collection Pachola at Bal Gandharva. She has also showcased her collection, Darpan, to a great response in Pune. The artist is known to lend a helping hand to numerous NGOs through her exhibition. Talking about painting for a cause, she says, "I have donated the proceedings from my exhibitions to Sindhutai Sapkal, the Eklavya School and the KEM hospital. This time too, I hope to lend a helping hand to a variety of NGOs."
For an artist who uses vibrant colours Nalawade's inspiration is hardly surprising, "I love NS Bendre's colour schemes. He is a great painter and I am enthused by his work. Van Gogh's work inspired me too." Ask her about the response that she expects in the city and Nalawade says, "My previous exhibitions in Pune were well-received, I hope it is the same this time around. The trend with impressionist art is changing around the country and it's a great feeling for painters like me who are inspired by the impressionist school of thought," she concludes.
