The spot is a coffeeshop inside a three-star hotel Don't go expecting more than a 'room-service' menu, and be sure to place your order early, because the cook will leave you feeling hungry
Orritel West is a unique three-star boutique hotel in the heart of Andheri West. Their restaurant, The Spot, is located on the ground floor. The ambience of the eatery mimics a closed patio that aims to be cool, urbane, hip and chic at the same time. Sadly, a blaring fan and a bare-faced bar counter didn't inspire our aesthetic buoyancy. The music is streamed from a private FM channel, and is set at a reasonably comfortable level, allowing for easy conversations.
Mutton Masala
But we were hurried to place our order, since the cook had to go home and couldn't prepare dishes post 11 pm. They have a scanty vegetarian menu, and we decided to skip the basic Paneer preparations.
The Chicken Fry (Rs 200) is the first starter to arrive and tastes like a boneless version of the Kentucky Fried Chicken.
The pieces are tender, juicy, and full of flavour.u00a0
It is an interesting recipe of flour, garlic powder, spices and salt. Good, but not outstanding.
Next, the Mutton Masala (Rs 250) arrives. It is slow-cooked in a traditional yogurt-based spice gravy. Little grouses here. The menu doesn't mention that it is not a boneless dish. The gravy isn't as thick as it should be for a dish that has au00a0 tomatoes-yogurt base. Also, lack of the right quantity of garam masala, makes this Mutton Masala a bland boy.
The accompanying Tawa Paratha (Rs 45) and Laccha Paratha (Rs 40) sufficed as decent accompaniments to the Main Course. No complaints here. The winner of the day was the Gulab Jamun (Rs 75) generously doused in just the right amount of sweet sugar syrup, flavoured with cardamom seeds and rosewater. Delicious.
But there's a twist in this tale. The Spot promises to have a more extensive menu in the coming week, with an English breakfast, hot dogs and other dishes.
