When envy strikes
Shovana, who has been performing on Tagore's creations since 1970s, is especially excited on this occasion. "I chose Shuoranir Shad because this tale carries a psychological and philosophical message and these are two things that have always attracted me. This story is an in-depth inquiry into the relationship between desire and envy, imitation and original, happiness and sorrow and the underlying human psychology becomes the connecting point of interest," she says. "Kathak is my way of expressing such emotions. It is life for me," she elaborated.
The story revolves around a man who pursues happiness. "It talks about the desires of a man to keep sorrow at bay, he is constantly chasing maya. But when a thing becomes easily available to a person, it loses its value, creating an illusion and thereby forming a vortex of inner turmoil. But the bigger truth is that a gem shines only after enduring great friction, just like gold emerges shinier after several tests in furnace. Sufferings make the soul stronger," adds Shovana. So get ready for some serious treatment ofu00a0 life as Shovana makes you realise the bigger picture through this 50-minute intense production.
