The Imaginary Diet

Like the sound of losing weight by just using your imagination? Here's how it works. Picture that sinful box of chocolates lying on your table, tempting you to break your resolution to avoid binging this year. Now go ahead and bite into a chocolate, then another and another.

Enjoy sinking your teeth into the thick chocolate crust, indulge your senses in its taste and just let go -- all in your mind. Now that you've enjoyed the chocolates in your head, according to the diet, your craving is satiated so when you reach for the box in reality, you won't pig out.

Dr Eileen Canday, dietician, Breach Candy Hospital believes it's all a matter of mind over stomach. "Our mind influences our eating patterns. It's easier for the dieter to not indulge in certain foods, once he has made up his mind. Your nutritionist or dietician will be able to help you to decide when is the best time for you to eat, and how you can adjust other meals so that you don't gain weight, and at the same time feel satisfied and are able to handle your food cravings," she says.

Exergaming
Your gaming console just turned into a personal trainer with companies launching games to lure in fitness freaks. The Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation Move support a whole set of games designed to help you burn calories as you score points. Studies have proven that Exergaming is six times more effective in maintaining interest in exercise when compared to traditional fitness machines.

While kickboxing and martial arts instructor, Sanjay Patel, agrees that exergaming is a fun way of slimming down, he's skeptical about it replacing traditional workouts. "These methods are low on motivation. It's easy to give up on them after the novelty of the games wear out." What then? "When working out in a group or with a personal trainer, train according to your needs and stamina. These consoles are fine if you want to stay fit when travelling, else in the long run it may fade out."
