Not many decide to turn entrepreneur at the age of 23. But if you are talented, determined and own family property in Colaba, it might not be a bad idea. That's exactly what young Zenden Lama, an interior designer by profession, did when she started Dorje Doma Designs early this month.
"This is family property and it has been lying in the dumps for the last 30 years. There was a problem as a result of which we couldn't use it until now. Even now I've converted the laundry area into the store," says Lama. Dorje means indestructible foundation, and Doma means goddess in Tibetan.
"Before opening this, I was working with a store in Bandra that does furniture and interior designs. I worked there for a year but I realised that the work was very repetitive. They kept doing the same thing. That wasn't my style. Finally, after dabbling with a few ventures, I took a loan and I dressed this store up. It's small but it gives me enough to display my furniture and because I love colour; I have home décor that adds a dash of colour," she adds.
The quaint store stocks sourced home décor and furniture designed by Lama.
