How long should a couple be trying to have a baby before they visit a specialist?
Female as well as male fertility begins to decline with age. After the age of 30, this decline is even more rapid. For a young couple in their 20s and early 30s, it can take up to 12 months to conceive. If you are a woman under 35 years of age and haven't conceived within 1 year of trying, then it is time to seek help from a fertility specialist. The timeline for women between 35 and 40 years of age is approximately 6 months of trying and for those above 40, it is approximately 3 months. Certain conditions can also affect the female fertility. In cases of PCOS, endometriosis, pelvic infections and any other hormonal issues, it is advisable to speak with the fertility expert even earlier before spending your precious year trying to conceive naturally. In men, any problems with ejaculation, quantity of semen or medical problems like diabetes, it is best to contact a fertility expert earlier.
