Ghatkopar's new yogurt destination will help you beat the heat with yummy frozen delights, paletas, Hawaiian shaved ice and waffles

Of late, the city has been gripped by a frozen yogurt invasion. Following this trend, Frugurpop is the latest to have set shop in Ghatkopar. As the name suggests, its menu includes frozen yogurt and popsicle-like paletas as well as gola-like Hawaiian shaved ice and Belgian waffles.

It was set up in April by Sudheer Grover and Pallavi Kuchroo, who are the same duo who started Aloha in Bandra, which became famous for its Mexican paletas or popsicles with fruit. Since Frugurpop is located within the food court of a mall, it is surrounded by a dozen other food joints but seemed to be doing brisk business on the weekday evening we dropped by.

Since only two flavours were available on that day, we opted for both! The Triple Berry Frozen Yogurt (' 40-small cup, ' 10 onwards for toppings) with toppings including chocolate shavings and butterscotch chips made for a great combination. The hint of sourness from the berry flavour contrasted with the subtle sweetness of the butterscotch.

The Green Apple Yogurt with Blueberry and Strawberry Compote also made for a refreshing and healthy treat. Since the frozen yogurt was delicious, we are sure it would've tasted just as good without the toppings. The owners claim that their yogurt is low-fat, without artificial sweeteners, flavours or colours; they also use natural imported fruit pastes for their flavouring.

Next up, we tried their Mango Cheesecake (' 80) and Fructilicious Paletas (' 70). The Mango Cheesecake Paleta is a frozen avatar of the juicy mangoes you must have feasted on this season while the yummy Paleta has a biscuit crumble base.

The Fructilicious Paleta is a transparent popsicle with slices of kiwi, blueberry, strawberry and mango embedded in lemongrass-flavoured ice. We were soon addicted to the lemongrass flavour of the colourful Paleta. We chose the Lime and Cola combination for the Hawaiian Shaved Iceu00a0(' 50); while it tasted fine we would have liked it without the excess ice, which refused to melt and prevented us from slurping the preparation.

After our cool outing, we veered towards the warm Belgian Waffles (' 60 onwards). We plumbed for the Cinnamon Belgian Waffle with Green Apple Yogurt (we couldn't have enough of it) with honey on top. The waffle was a letdown - it was hard and rubbery despite being made on the spot. The Belgian Waffle with Vanilla Ice Cream and Hershey's Chocolate syrup fared better, possibly because the ice cream seeped into the waffle, making it less rubbery.
