If you associated jute with plain-looking wares in pastel shades, The Jute Shop will change your view. The Jute Shop entered the city just a year back and already boasts of several outlets across the city; the latest outlet has set shop at Neptune Magnet Mall in Bhandup.
The shop has an assortment of colourful bags on display, including sports bags, wallets, batwas and handbags. While a majority of the products are made from jute, some bags are also made of rexin (which is part of their sister brand Ballyfabs).
"The Kankaria Group (which owns The Jute Shop) has been involved in the jute business for four decades; we have huge mills at Belur in Howrah district. While several mills have shut down, we changed our product offerings and focused solely on jute bags (many of which are exported internationally too). The best part is that the products are eco-friendly, low-cost and colourful," says Amay Manik, Head of Retail and Expansion, Ballyfabs International Limited.
He added that professionals from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) design the bags while their in-house team of artisans execute these into trendy jute bags.
Browsing through their range of products, we liked the pink and golden hued large-sized sports bag ('950) and the handbag with an image of Einstein to inspire you to think quirky ('349). If you are on a budget, check out their zari pouches ('29) and for the nature loving souls they have the perfect bag with the motto Think Green, Save the world staring back at you ('149). There are bags with tribal motif designs ('169) and images of guitars ('100) for Rock lovers in the house.
