At Spice Water Trail in GK 1's M block market. Savour delicacies from the Nizam's kitchen
At Spice Water Trail in GK 1's M block market. Savour delicacies from the Nizam's kitchenWe were busy with some retail therapy at the GK 1 M block market- trying to update our winter wardrobe before the chill sets in- when we heard our stomach growling. While the market throws up innumerable options for foodies, our eyes searched for something unconventional, something which is not readily available in Delhi, not everyday at least.
We zeroed on in Spice water trail, a place that serves south Indian coastal cuisine, hidden among garment store, restaurants and mehendiwalas. We walked up a small flight of stairs and were transported all the way from north India to the south- in a matter of seconds.
The restaurant is decked up with chettinad pillars. The first floor has a lounge and a dinning area along with a bar, while the second floor houses a private dinning room. The d ufffdcor is earthy, with the snake board at the entrance. There are comfy loungy sofas and jute chairs for you to be able to enjoy a comfortable meal. A Hyderabadi food festival was on and we straight away decided to grab the promotional menu while we cooled ourselves with some mocktails made from various coastal fruits like Kokam.
The menu was exhaustive- with enough options which is from both vegetarians and non- vegetarians. While, Hyderabad is famous for its spicy biryani (which is completely different from the Lucknawi dum biryani by the way), the Nihari and Haleem are quite renowned too.
We began our meal with some spicy and succulent kebabs. There was some Garley, which was crispy meat balls. Soft and juicy Methi murg tikka followed the Garley and thereafter came some Andhra prawn fry which has a fan following all over. The icing on the cake, however, was the Do rukha kebab. These kebabs are prepared using two kinds of meat- mutton and chicken. We could feel the taste of the cardamom while we chewed on the soft kebab.
The stomachs were showing signs of filling up already, so we quickly ordered some main course. The Haleem (that filling concoction of lentils and meat which you wouldn't find round the year) arrives steaming hot, along with the mutton biryani. We relish the biryani with some Kali mirch ka murg, which contrary to the name, wasn't half as spicy. If you are a vegetarian, we would recommend the Mirch ka salan with Kachche gosht ki biryani.
Round of the meal, like we did, with some Shahi tukda and get ready to hit the market once again to burn those calories.
