Before the wedding invites keep you busy this season, take a little time out for this art show in Delhi
It is a strange but unchanging cycle we Delhiites follow. Days before the winter chill sets in, we keep energies reserved for something major, like this time it was the long trip to Greater Noida to watch motor cars on steroids pass by. Then there is a lull before we start attending high profile weddings. Perfect timing to brush up your artistic instincts, we say.
My sister's birthday (oil on canvas)
Never mind the photo ops with a wine glass in the foreground and a Raza in the background (yes we know it's a dull month) but attend this one for the sheer pleasure of walking down and through the memory lane with a young artist. 'Reminiscentiae'u00a0-- a group art exhibition by artists Shivani Bhalla, BV Shweta and Aparneet is what is recommended to brighten up your monotonous days (unless you are gearing up for the coming elections or busy bailing out your airline).u00a0
A superimposed space (oil on canvas)
Shivani Bhalla is a 26-year-old Delhiite, College of Arts alumni. This is her first major exhibition (her first one in the Capital was also a group show) and are transformations of diary entries of a young girl on canvas. "My childhood memories and experiences are what I have carried on in my paintings," says Shiavani.
Interestingly, some of her works are as simple to understand as she makes it sound. My sister's birthday, taken from a piece of her childhood memories, has an animated birthday girl blowing out the birthday cake candles, the other children clinch to the gifts they have brought for her, an elder gives a cunning look... stand in front of it and you'll be reminded of the endless birthday parties you have attended in your neighbourhood while you were growing up.
For someone who admits being influenced by Chagall and Rosso, Shivani declares she loves the psychological impact of space on human beings. Then there is Aparneet, 'obsessed with the subtle complex construction of a
picture,' often leaving admirers confused with her 'white canvases'. "My works don't have 'a piece' per se, there are a series of works which are connected. It is a continuous exercise for the audience as well as for me as an artist," says Aparneet.
The show is curated by Dr Alka Pande and with her flair for pulling out new attention-grabbing artists from her hat; this one is sure to be worth a visit. Besides, we still have a little time before the wedding invites dropping in.
