The city's art and jewellery aficionados have a new reason to cheer as Max Mueller Bhavan along with PN Gadgil and Sons are hosting a jewellery exhibition titled Tradition Possession and Beyond.
The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between Michael Flucht, director at Max Mueller Bhavan, Pune, Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, The MKSSS, School of Fashion Technology (SOFT) and Hyatt Regency, Pune.
It will provide a unique opportunity for art lovers to witness the various stages of ancient bead-making and check out some interesting contemporary jewellery designs by international artists. Raju Sutar, artist and founder of Waves Art Gallery, is the curator for the exhibition.
He added that the exhibition is an effort to revive the art of jewellery-making. The event will feature rare excavated stone beads including some excavated from Chaul near Maharashtra. The highlight will be exhibits on the process of bead making dating back to 2,500 years.
Dr Rabindra Kumar Mohanty from the Deccan College of Archeology, has also provided his research and work in the topic for the show. Dr Mohanty will give a special lecture-cum-presentation on the topic on the inaugural day at 11 am. It will be held at the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum between August 21 and September 2.
At the exhibition you can check out the works of renowned international artists including Georg Dobler (Germany), Margit Jäschke (Germany), Esther Brinkmann (Switzerland) and Sham Patwardhan-Joshi (India).u00a0There will be a workshop for the students of SOFT by Georg Dobler, Margit Jäschke and Sham Patwardhan-Joshi at the School of Fashion Technology, Pune between August 22 and 25 followed by the demonstration by the artisans from Gujarat showcasing their traditional skills of stone bead making, similar to the ancient techniques from August 23 to 27 between 10 am and 6 pm.
The activities are free and open for all art lovers, collectors and students of fine arts, except the inaugural functions at the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum and at the Hyatt Regency, Pune.
