Two years ago Nimish Adani chanced upon a friend's iPhone with his name engraved on it. He began to look for vendors who offered such services and started experimenting using different materials, graphics and photographs.
It led him to start the portal Engrave.in in November 2010. The site offers personalised gifting services that help you preserve your favouriteu00a0memories. Their present range includes engraved plaques, canvas prints and photo frames, which can be personalised or purchased ready-made.
The range of ready-made designs includes pop art versions of musicians such as Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix, movie poster images of films such as The Godfather and Sherlock Holmes, replica of stamps, images of cities like Benaras, plaques with quotes and paintings such as Van Gogh's The Starry Night.
"Since customers design the product, each gift is one-of-a-kind and personal. We don't want customers to settle for mass-market gift items," he says. Adani, with a background in engineering and management went full-time with this venture in June 2011.
Once you log on to the site there is a simple three-step process involved for purchasing their customised plaques/ canvas prints. You have to select a plaque/canvas print size and a frame, drop in the photo you want along with a personal message and place an order. Delivery is within 3-7 days. Gift-wrapping options and a choice on messages are also offered.
Their popular products include the classic wooden plaque with ready-made designs of Jim Morrison from the Forever 27 Club series of icons, The Crazy Ones Plaque of motivational quotes from the Mantras series, Gateway of India and Taj Mahal Plaques from the Glimpses of India series, Sex Symbols of Yore series which features sex symbols from Hollywood and the Gangs of Hollywood series that includes cult movies by Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese.
"We seek inspiration from objects, artists, movies and culture that have a cult following," shares Adani. Engrave will also be a part of the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival this year. This will include a section where people can get their photographs clicked and engraved on various products of their choice.
