The lane at Grant Road, where Sudama stands doesn't look welcoming. But as we approached, we were put at ease, thanks to the beautifully designed glass door that opened into this pure vegetarian restaurant. After an initial scan of the place, it wasn't tough to conclude why this place was a hit among nuclear and joint families.



The brightly-lit dining area and comfortable seating aided in ensuring we slipped into relax mode and focus on our mission. The dishes on the menu were categorised into many interesting sections including Delhi Door Nahin, Chaat Di Gaddi, Taste from the West and Thanda Thanda Cooler. The mocktails caught our attention and we decided to order the Ecstasy (Rs 110) and Flute Champagne (Rs 110).

Nobody was in a rush at Sudama. Most families seemed unperturbed that they had to wait endlessly for their food, we noticed. Little wonder then that the staff followed suit and took their time with the orders. We ordered for the drinks first, yet these arrived a after we finished with our starters -- Corn Cheese Balls (Rs 135). This simple snack was strictly okay, with very little cheese. Our drinks elevated our mood and kept us in the mood for the mains.u00a0The Ecstasy, made of fizzy apple, kiwi and pineapple was enjoyably sweet with a distinct flavour. The Flute Champagne, which was a blend of custard apple and sweet lime, also scored full points.

Save the sev
The Sev Paratha (Rs 135), listed in the Delhi Door Nahin section, piqued the imagination. As we bit into this paratha stuffed with sev, we realised its always best to reserve sev for chaat. Stick to aloo when it comes to parathas. The sev and paratha combination didn't particularly impress. The accompanying dal and dahi made amends on the taste quotient.

Next, we opted for the familiar Oriental Pot Rice (Rs 195). It wasu00a0 delicious; our winner of the evening. A Sizzling Brownie (Rs 150) ended our visit on a sweet note. If only someone told Sudama's staff to brush up on their inconsistent service.
